Camera Troubleshooting

The Guac Photo Booth relies on the Canon DSLR Camera and the Camera settings for each DSLR event in the Fiesta iOS App. If either the camera or the Fiesta iOS App's camera settings are misconfigured, photo or video issues can occur.

The following sections outline common symptoms and provide quick solutions for resolving camera issues on-site.

What To Know
Unable To Take Photos, But Video Captures Work

Possible causes:

• The Canon DSLR Camera's Mode Dial is not set to M (manual exposure)
• High Frame Rate is turned on

Troubleshooting steps:

• Confirm that the Canon DSLR Camera's Mode Dial is set to M
• Ensure that High Frame Rate is turned off

How To
Resolve: Unable To Take Photos, But Video Captures Work

To turn off High Frame Rate:

1. Plug the Guac Photo Booth into power
2. Turn the Mode Dial on the Canon DSLR to the video-camera icon
3. Press Menu
4. Select Movie rec quality
5. Select High Frame Rate
6. Set High Frame Rate to Disable
7. Set frame rate to FHD 29.97 FPS
8. Turn the Camera Mode Dial back to M

What To Know
Captures Are Blurry Or Out Of Focus

Possible causes:

• Continuous AF (Auto Focus) is turned off
• The lens is not set to 15mm (on Canon M50 II) or 18mm (on Canon EOS R100)
• Focus Mode is set to MF (Manual Focus)
• Image Stabilization (IS) is turned on
• AF Method is set incorrectly

How To
Resolve: Captures Are Blurry Or Out Of Focus

1. Rotate the Canon DSLR Camera lens until the white dash above the Canon logo aligns with “15” on the lens of the Canon M50 II or “18” on the Canon EOS R100
2. Check that the Canon DSLR Camera settings match the recommended settings in the setup guide for the installed camera model

What To Know
Captures Are Cropped Or Zoomed In

If captures appear zoomed in or cropped, if multiple guests do not fit in the frame, or if the backdrop is not visible without moving the booth more than 4 feet away, follow the steps below.
 

Possible causes:

• The camera lens is not adjusted to the recommended setting

How To
Resolve: Captures Are Cropped Or Zoomed In

To fix on the Canon M50 II:

1. Remove the camera from Guac Head
2. Looking down from the top of the camera, locate the switch on the side of the lens
3. Unlock the lens by simultaneously sliding and holding the switch and rotating the lens
4. Rotate the lens until the white dash above the Canon logo aligns with 15 on the lens
5. Release the switch

To fix on the Canon EOS R100:

1. Looking down from the top of the camera, locate the switch on the side of the lens
2. Unlock the lens by twisting it counterclockwise firmly
3. Continue to rotate the lens until the white dash above the Canon logo aligns with 18 on the lens

What To Know
Bottom Half Of Captures Are Black

Possible causes:

• Shutter Speed is set too high

• Confirm the Shutter Speed is 1/320 or slower

Resolve: Bottom Half Of Captures Are Black

To adjust the shutter speed:

1. Plug the Guac Photo Booth into power
2. Open the Fiesta iOS App on the iPad
3. Select an event or create a new event
4. Select Configure Event
5. Tap on the Camera tab
6. Select Photo Settings
7. Select Shutter Speed
8. Choose a Shutter Speed slower than 1/320

Note: Setting the shutter speed too slow may cause captures to look blurry.

What To Know
Camera Keeps Disconnecting

Possible causes:

• Auto Power Off is enabled
• The Canon DSLR Camera battery adapter cable is not fully connected
   

Troubleshooting steps:

• Look inside the Guac Head and confirm that the battery adapter cable is securely connected to the bottom of the camera
• Check the settings on the Canon DSLR Camera to ensure that Auto Power Off is disabled

To disable Auto Power Off on the Canon DSLR Camera:

1. Press Menu
2. Move right to Function settings (wrench icon)
3. Go to Menu 2
4. Go down to Power Saving
5. Go down to Auto Power Off
6. Set to Disable

To set video captures to manual exposure on the Canon DSLR Camera:

1. Turn the Canon DSLR Camera Mode Dial to the video camera icon
2. Press Menu
3. Select Shooting settings
4. Go to Menu 1
5. Select Shooting Mode
6. Set to Manual Exposure
7. Turn the Mode Dial back to M

What To Know
Slo-Mo Mode Not Working

Possible causes:

• High Frame Rate is not enabled
• Focus mode is not set to MF (Manual Focus)
• Shutter speed is not set to 1/250

Note: Slo-Mo Mode is only available on the Fiesta Pro subscription tier.

IMPORTANT: High Frame Rate should only be enabled when using Slo-Mo Mode. For standard Video or Boomerang captures, High Frame Rate should be disabled.

Resolve: Slo-Mo Mode Not Working

To turn on High Frame Rate:

1. Plug the Guac Photo Booth into power
2. Turn the Canon DSLR Camera Mode Dial to the video camera icon
3. Press Menu
4. Select Movie rec quality
5. Select High Frame Rate
6. Set High Frame Rate to Enable
7. Turn the Mode Dial back to M
    

To set Focus mode to MF:

1. Plug the Guac Photo Booth into power
2. Turn the Canon DSLR Camera Mode Dial to the video camera icon
3. Press Menu
4. Select Shooting settings
5. Go to Menu 5
6. Go down to Focus mode
7. Set to MF (Manual Focus)
    

To set the shutter speed to 1/250:

1. Plug the Guac Photo Booth into power
2. Open the Fiesta iOS App on the iPad
3. Select an event or create a new event
4. Select Configure Event
5. Tap on the Camera tab
6. Select Video Settings
7. Select Shutter Speed
8. Select 1/250

Note: Use additional lighting or adjust the aperture value if the Slo-Mo captures appear too dark.

Boomerang And Video Captures In Slow Motion

Possible causes:

• High Frame Rate is enabled

IMPORTANT: High Frame Rate should only be enabled when using Slo-Mo Mode. For standard Video or Boomerang captures, High Frame Rate should be disabled.

To turn off High Frame Rate:

2. Turn the Canon DSLR Camera Mode Dial to the Movie Shooting Mode (the video camera icon)
3. Press Menu
4. Select Movie rec quality
5. Select High Frame Rate
6. Set High Frame Rate to Disable
7. Set frame rate to FHD 29.97 FPS
8. Turn the Mode Dial back to M

How To
Resolve: Video-Based Captures Not As Clear As Photos

To increase the light level, manually adjust the modeling lamp brightness:

1. When OFF is displayed, short-press the Lightbulb Button to enter PROP mode
   Note: Now the LCD panel should show PROP
2. When PROP is displayed, short-press the Lightbulb Button again to enter Percentage mode
3. Short-press the SET Button, and the percentage value blinks
4. Turn the Select Dial to choose the light brightness from 5% to 100%.
5. Short-press the SET Button to exit

Note: The modeling lamp will turn off automatically after 4 hours of use to prevent overheating. For an event longer than that, we recommend the Yongnuo YN360 as supplemental lighting.

Camera SD Card Full

Possible causes:

• The installed SD card has reached its maximum capacity and cannot store any additional captures

How To
Resolve: Camera SD Card Full

1. Assemble and power on the Guac Photo Booth
2. Remove the Guac Rear Door
3. Ensure the Canon DSLR Camera is turned on
4. Press the Menu button
5. Navigate to the right and select Function settings (wrench icon)
6. Go down and select Format Card
7. Select OK to confirm
    

IMPORTANT: This will permanently delete all captures from the SD card. This will not affect captures that were uploaded to the event.

What To Know
Captures Processing Indefinitely

Possible causes:

• The installed SD card has reached its maximum capacity and cannot store any additional captures
• The camera fails to finish processing captures
• The camera lens is unable to complete focusing
• The event, Overlay, or Photo Template is corrupted

How To
Resolve: Captures Processing Indefinitely

Try the following possible fixes in order.

Format the SD card:

1. Assemble the Guac and connect to power
2. Power on the camera inside the Guac head
3. Press Menu
4. Navigate to the right and select the yellow wrench icon (Function settings)
5. Select Format Card
   IMPORTANT: This will permanently delete the captures from the SD card. This will not affect captures that were uploaded to an event. 

Reset the camera:

1. Assemble the Guac and connect to power
2. Power on the camera inside the Guac head
3. Press Menu
4. Navigate to the right and select the yellow wrench icon (Function settings)
5. Go to Menu 4
6. Select Reset camera
7. Select Basic settings
8. Select OK

Reseat the camera lens:

1. Remove the camera from Guac Head
2. Looking from the front of the camera, locate the button on the camera body, to the side of the lens
3. Unlock the lens by holding the button and rotating the lens
4. Rotate the lens until the lens detaches from the camera body
   IMPORTANT: Ensure that you have a solid grip on the lens and the camera to avoid dropping either part.
5. Align the white dot on the lens with the white dot on the camera body's lens connection ring
6. Slide the lens onto the camera body and twist the lens clockwise until you hear a click

Create a new event:

1. Log in to Fiesta Web App or Fiesta iOS App
2. From the Events Screen, select Create Event
3. Enter an event name
4. Select an event date
5. Select an event time
6. Select an event type

7. Press Create Event
