Explainer

What's the difference?

Photo Templates are used exclusively for Photo Mode on the Salsa iOS app. They are made up of three different layers:

  • Background

  • Layout

  • Overlay

Photo captures are arranged on the template based on the layout you choose within the Event Settings. The photos are placed on top of the background that you upload, and an overlay is then placed on top of both the background and photos.

Overlays are best used for GIF, Boomerang, and Video Mode captures for in-person events ran on the Salsa iOS app and all capture modes in Virtual Booth.

  • Important: If a Photo Template is not selected, then the overlay will be applied to photos as well.

Virtual Booth events use overlays for all capture modes and are not compatible with Photo Templates.

What To Know

When To Use Photo Templates

You should use Photo Templates if you want to:

  • Allow guests to take multiple photos in one session that are then placed onto one image.

  • Add design and branding – such as logos and text – without covering the guests’ photo.

  • Perfect for printing 2x6 and 4x6

  • Provide you and your client full-sized, unbranded original photos

You should not use Photo Templates if you want to:

  • Provide multiple overlay options for guests when taking a photo

  • Run a Virtual Booth only event

How To

Use Multiple Overlays For Photos

With Photo Templates, guests only get one option for the template background and overlay.

However, there may be some events where you want to provide multiple overlay options to guests when taking a photo.

To allow guests to choose from multiple overlay options when taking a photo:

  1. Log into the Salsa web app

  2. Create a new event or select an existing event

  3. Click Configure Event

  4. Click the Event Capture Settings tab

  5. Click Overlays

  6. Click Add Overlay

  7. Upload a new overlay or select one from your Asset Library

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to add additional overlays

Important: Do not use the Photo Template Library or enable any photo templates. If a photo template is added, it will override the overlay when using Photo Mode.
