Photo And Video Settings

Photo and Video Settings in DSLR Camera Settings utilize the same adjustment options, however to provide as much customizability as possible the settings are separated. Photo Settings are adjusted independently from Video Settings, to ensure every capture type is as high-quality as possible!

These settings are specific to DSLR Events, and relate directly to the Canon camera settings. They do not adjust the Canon camera settings directly, but do provide the ability to further fine-tune any and all capture settings to elevate Events to the next level.

Note: it is recommended to adjust Photo and Video Settings once the booth is set up at the event to ensure all settings are adjusted to the venue's specific lighting needs

What To Know
ISO

ISO adjusts how sensitive the camera is to light. This value ranges from 100 to 12800 in Fiesta, with the higher value resulting in a brighter capture. The recommended range for Fiesta is between 200 to 800.

If captures appear grainy, or "noisy," the ISO may be set too high in a low-light or dim environment. The flash should also be checked to make sure it is connected correctly and set to 100% power.

If captures appear too bright or blown out, make sure the booth is set 4 to 5 feet away from the backdrop (if there is one) and guests are standing no closer than 3 feet away.

After these adjustments, if captures are still too grainy, adjusting the ISO is the next step.

What To Know
Shutter Speed

Shutter Speed adjusts how long the shutter is open during each capture. Shutter speed is measured in seconds or fractions of a second, ranging from 1/4000th of a second to 30 seconds in Fiesta

The Canon camera's sensor will be exposed to more light the longer the shutter is open, producing a brighter capture. However, longer shutter speeds may cause captures to appear blurrier as guests are moving around.

Shorter shutter speeds produce a sharper image, but may result in darker captures if subjects are not lit well enough.

If the shutter speed is adjusted, it may be necessary to adjust the aperture to compensate for an excess or loss of light.

Note: Setting the shutter speed faster than 1/200th of a second may prevent the flash from syncing properly with the camera, resulting in black bands or bars across the capture

What To Know
Aperture

Aperture controls how much light enters the camera and reaches the sensor. This is measured in F-stops where higher numbers will result in a sharper image. In Fiesta, the number ranges from 4.5 to 22, with the higher number indicating a decrease in the aperture.

If the shutter speed is increased, it may be necessary to increase the aperture, which is done by lowering the f-stop value.

If the shutter speed is decreased, it may be necessary to decrease the aperture, which is done by raising the f-stop value.

What To Know
LED Ring Flash

While the flash and the modeling lamp are the main source of light when capturing content from the booth, the LED ring can be used as an additional light source.

To ensure the proper amount of light is provided, the LED Ring Flash is already adjusted according to the other settings in the Event Settings. The LED Ring Flash can be toggled on or off depending on preference, and can be enabled or disabled separately in the Photo and Video Settings.

What To Know
White Balance

White Balance adjusts the color temperature of captures from cool to warm. This is used to compensate for ambient lighting conditions that may cause colors to not appear correctly in captures.

If the flash and umbrella are assembled and set up correctly, there shouldn't be any need to change the white balance for Photo or GIF captures, as the flash should produce a strong enough light that pairs perfectly with the default Cloudy setting.

If Boomerang, Video, or Slo Mo captures appear too cool (blue or green), it may be necessary to adjust the white balance to Shade. If captures appear to warm (red or orange), it may be necessary to adjust the white balance to Daylight, White Fluorescent, or Tungsten.

FAQ

Can I set up the camera settings before an event?

  • It is recommended to set up all camera settings once the booth is set up at an event
  • If the booth is set up at the event venue before the event, it should be alright to set up the camera settings

Help! My captures are looking super grainy!

  • If the ISO is set too high (above 800 for Fiesta) the captures will likely look grainy or as if there is static over the captures.
  • Adjust to a lower ISO, and  either provide additional lighting, or adjust the Shutter Speed and Aperture to compensate

Why do my photo captures look grainy, but my video captures look fine?

  • Photo and Video Settings are adjusted separately. If photo captures are grainy but video captures are fine, adjust the Photo Settings

Why do my video captures look kind of orange/red, but my photo captures look fine?

  • Video Settings have a different default white balance, that can sometimes look a bit more warm. Adjust the Video Settings white balance
