What are Advanced iOS Camera Settings?
Advanced iOS Camera Settings allow more control over the camera adjustments in Fiesta iPad Events. These can be useful when the automatic settings are not able to properly adjust, like in cases where the lighting is changing rapidly throughout the event.
Manually adjusting the camera settings allow you to create a more balanced look throughout the event, so captures taken at the start of the event will look like the captures at the end of the event.
What To Know
Best Practices
While automatic settings will result in great captures, manually adjusting the White Balance and/or Exposure settings to accommodate different venues can help provide consistency of captures in the event’s Live Gallery.
Fine-tuning the Camera Settings before an event can make the difference between a great event and an amazing event. Follow these best practices for the best results.
Adjust White Balance and Exposure at the Event
- Avoid making changes to these settings until everything is set up at the event
- Differences in lighting on-site at venues, and the surrounding environment can significantly affect White Balance and Exposure
Best Shutter Speed Settings
- Using 1/100 Shutter Speed will provide the best overall quality
- If captures appear too bright or blown out, lower the ISO or set the Shutter Speed to 1/200 or higher
Bring a Neutral White Object to Use for White Balancing
- The best way to set the White Balance is to have an object that can be used as a neutral white reference. This can be an index card, a small whiteboard, or any object that is a neutral white.
What To Know
Manual Exposure Settings
Manual Exposure allows for greater control, resulting in more consistency between captures.
Turning off Auto Exposure will reveal the manual exposure settings for Shutter Speed and ISO.
Shutter Speed
- Shutter Speed adjusts how long the camera's shutter is open during each capture. Shutter speed is measured in seconds or fractions of a second, ranging from 1/8000th of a second to 1 second.
- The longer the shutter is open, the brighter the capture will be. However, slower Shutter Speeds may cause the capture to appear blurry if there is unintended or unexpected movement while the capture is being taken.
- Faster Shutter Speeds will result in darker captures, but will appear more crisp, and allow for more movement while the capture is being taken without additional motion blur being captured.
ISO
- ISO adjusts how sensitive the camera is to light. The ISO value ranges from 100 to 1600, with higher values resulting in brighter captures.
- Too high of an ISO in low-light or dim conditions may cause captures to look less clear, or may introduce more spotting or graininess to the captures.
How To
Manually Adjust Exposure Settings
- Log in to Fiesta iOS App on your iPad
- Select or create an event
- Select Configure Event
- Select the Camera tab
- Select Camera Settings
- Toggle off Auto Exposure
- Adjust the Shutter Speed
- By default, Shutter Speed is set to 1/200
- Speed up the Shutter Speed by increasing the second number in the fraction to darken captures
- Slow down the Shutter Speed by decreasing the second number in the fraction to brighten captures
- Note: It is not recommended to reduce the Shutter Speed lower than 1/60 for most events.
- Adjust the ISO
- By default, ISO is set to 1000
- Lower the ISO to darken captures
- Raise the ISO to brighten captures
- Note: It is recommended to keep the ISO as low as possible within your event's lighting availability. Very high ISO settings may introduce graininess or reduced capture clarity.
What To Know
Manual White Balance Settings
Manual White Balance settings can be accessed by turning off Auto White Balance.
Manually adjusting the White Balance will allow you to capture more true-to-life colors by controlling the Temperature and Tint.
Temperature
- The Temperature setting adjusts the cool (blue) and warm (orange) tones in the capture. The value ranges from 3000K (very warm or orange) to 8000K (very cool or blue).
- If a venue has incandescent lightbulbs, guests and backdrops may look more orange. In this situation, you’ll want to set the temperature to a higher value.
- If the event is outside on a cloudy day or in a shaded area, captures may look more blue. In this situation, you’ll want to set the temperature to a lower value.
Tint
- Tint settings adjust the color of the capture on a green/magenta spectrum. This ranges from -150 (very green) to 150 (very magenta).
- Adjusting the tint is most often used when there are colored lights at the venue.
How To
Manually Adjust White Balance Settings
- Log in to the Fiesta iOS App on your iPad
- Select or create an event
- Select Configure Event
- Select the Camera tab
- Select Camera Settings
- Toggle off Auto White Balance
- Adjust the Temperature
- By default, Temperature is set to 4500K
- Lower the Temperature setting to capture a warmer image if the event's lighting is too cool (blue)
- Raise the Temperature setting to capture a cooler image if the event's lighting is too warm (orange)
- Adjust the Tint
- By default, Tint is set to 0
- Lower the Tint setting to add green to your captures, overall reducing magenta tones
- Raise the Tint setting to add magenta to your captures, overall reducing green tones
- Note: Tint is only likely to need adjustments if an event venue has colored environment lighting.
