What are iOS Camera Settings?

The iOS Camera Settings allow you to fine-tune how captures will look when running an iPad Event using the Fiesta iOS App on Salsa 1 Photo Booth, Salsa 2 Photo Booth, and third-party iPad photo booths.

Default Camera Settings

  • Camera: Front
  • Exposure: Auto
  • White Balance: Auto
  • LED Ring Flash: On
  • Flash Brightness: 50%

Note: LED Ring Flash and Flash Brightness settings require a Salsa 1 Photo Booth or a Salsa 2 Photo Booth.

Note: The iPad Camera Settings cannot be adjusted and are grayed out on the Fiesta Web App. The iPad Camera Settings must be adjusted through the Fiesta iOS App on an iPad.

What To Know
Selected Camera

iPads include both a front and back-facing camera. Fiesta is set to use the front facing camera by default.

While the back facing camera is not able to be used when your iPad is installed in Salsa 1 or Salsa 2 Photo Booth, if you are using the Fiesta iOS App outside of a Salsa Photo Booth, you can take advantage of the back camera for captures.

What To Know
Aspect Ratio

Screenshot 2024-11-26 at 11.35.19 AM.png

The Aspect Ratio determines the shape and size of your captures and how much is captured in each shot when a Photo Template or Overlay is not set for the selected Capture Mode.

The default aspect ratios are Portrait 3:4 in iPad events, and Landscape 4:3 in DSLR events.

If the aspect ratio is changed, the original capture will be cropped to fit the selected aspect ratio while a Photo Template or Overlay is not set for the selected Capture Mode.

If you've added a Photo Template or Overlay to your capture, the aspect ratio will be automatically adjusted to fit the size of the individual captures within the Photo Template or Overlay.

However, if you're not using a Photo Template or Overlay for one or more Capture Modes, you can manually set the Aspect Ratio from the Camera Settings.

What To Know
Auto Exposure

When Auto Exposure is turned on, the iPad camera will attempt to automatically adjust the brightness for each capture.

Auto Exposure will produce captures that look great on their own, but when viewed in a gallery, it may result in an inconsistent appearance from capture to capture.

Auto Exposure works by analyzing the lighting conditions right before each capture. Lighting conditions can be affected by ambient light (the sun, neon signs in the background, lighting at the venue), the color and reflectiveness of a backdrop, and guests’ clothing.

If Auto Exposure is not allowing you to achieve the results that you're looking for, you can make adjustments to the Exposure Compensation, or turn off Auto Exposure, and manually adjust the exposure settings to fine-tune the setting.

What To Know
Exposure Compensation

Exposure Compensation provides a bit more control over your captures' exposure without needing to adjust all of the settings manually.

Exposure Compensation is set to 0.0 by default, and can be adjusted between -2.0 (very dark) to 2.0 (very bright).

With Auto Exposure enabled, the iPad camera attempts to automatically balance the brightness of captures by changing the exposure to accommodate differently lit environments, subjects, and scenes.

This can sometimes cause captures to be underexposed – or too dark – when using light colored backdrops, if a neon sign is in the background, or if guests are dressed in brightly colored clothing.

The opposite can happen as well, where captures will appear overexposed – or too bright – when using darker backdrops or if guests are dressed in darker colored clothing.

If you want more control over your captures' brightness levels, you can turn off Auto Exposure and manually adjust the exposure settings.

What To Know
Auto White Balance

When Auto White Balance is turned on, the iPad camera attempts to automatically balance the coloration of captures by changing the tint and color temperature to accommodate differently lit environments, subjects, and scenes.

Auto White Balance will produce captures that look great on their own, but when viewed in a gallery, it may result in an inconsistent appearance from capture to capture.

With Auto White Balance enabled, the camera analyzes the overall color or hue of what is in the frame, and adjusts how warm (orange) or cool (blue), and how tinted (green or magenta) the capture will be, just before each capture is taken.

The temperature and tint of a capture can be greatly affected by the color of a backdrop, ambient light, and the color of guests’ clothing.

If Auto White Balance is not allowing you to achieve the capture results that you're looking for, you can turn off Auto White Balance, and manually adjust the Temperature and Tint to fine-tune your captures' White Balance.

What To Know
LED Flash

The Salsa LED Ring acts as a key light – the main source of light – when taking captures on Salsa 1 or Salsa 2 Photo Booths.

The Salsa LED Ring's brightness can be controlled separately for its two modes: Interface LEDs (Solid Color or Pattern during an active event, while a capture is not being taken) and LED Ring Flash (when the LED Ring turns white as a capture is being taken, to act as a main source of capture lighting).

You can adjust the brightness for both the Interface LEDS and LED Ring Flash separately, which can be set between 0% - 100%.

In darker lighting environments, it is recommended to keep the LED Ring Flash Brightness set between 60% - 80%. However, in fully unlit environments, such as indoor venues with no windows, at night, or with no lights, you may want to increase the LED Ring Flash Brightness to 100%.

In brighter lighting environments, such as outdoor venues or very brightly-lit events, it is recommended to keep the LED Ring Flash Brightness set between 25% - 50%, as it will primarily act as an indicator to guests that a capture is being taken, instead of providing the main source of lighting for your capture.

It is recommended to set the LED Ring Flash Brightness before making any adjustments to Exposure or White Balance settings.

Note: If Video Capture Mode is enabled with its duration set for longer than 30 seconds, the maximum LED Ring Flash Brightness is 50%.
